Travel South Dakota
Project Guidelines
Students will work in groups of three to
complete a journey starting in Watertown and traveling to several destinations
in South Dakota. (The group must
return to Watertown). Each group
will be given a budget of $400.00 to spend on the 5-day trip. Costs including mileage and admission
to attractions/entrance fees must be included. Each group must visit a minimum of five cities and/or
destinations in South Dakota.
These may include state/national parks, museums, historical sites,
cities, landmarks, etc. While visiting each destination students will need to
research (1) the destination's geographic location in SD, (2) information on
the topography, (3) people, and (4) history (if able to find). A minimum of 2-3 facts must also be
gathered that state other interesting information. A computer-generated journal must be kept while on the
journey of South Dakota. All group members are responsible for contributing to
the daily journal and at the end of the project the journal must be e-mailed to
the teacher <ahowardson@wtn.k12.sd.us>. A technology presentation by each group will be given upon
completion of the journey,
After
all research has been gathered the information will be used to create a
presentation to be shared with the class.
The presentation can be created with HyperStudio, AppleWorks slide show,
or PowerPoint. The presentation
must include a title slide (complete with a title, each group member's name,
and a digital photo of each). A
slide must be created for each destination visited in South Dakota (5
minimum). Be sure to include (1)
the destination's geographic location in SD, (2) information on the topography,
(3) people, and (4) history (if able to find). A minimum of 2-3 facts must also be listed that share other
interesting information about that particular destination. Also include an
image of the destination (from Internet). The final slide in your presentation
will show the total cost for traveling South Dakota (include mileage costs and
entrance fees/admission).
Be
sure to choose background and text colors that go well together and are easy to
read when presenting to the class.
The font size should be large enough for everyone to see. Quality work is what we expect to see
from your group's presentation.
Teamwork is essential! Do
your best and enjoy your journey across South Dakota!! We look forward to hearing about your
adventure.
